WOMEN'S SPORTS ORGANIZATION (WSO)

Sports play an important role in our social life because it help women perform their maternal duty and nurturing the new generation in the best manner writhin the sphere of the great Islamic system.

The need for and importance of women's sports and physical education is quite obvious, because women account for half of the population, specific programs should be prepared physical capabilities and sport ability and especially to stimulate women's interest in sports as a necessary element in the years preceding the revolution programs of the former regime, no attention was paid to women's physical and mental health. Rather, all facilities and opportunities were reserved for a handful of so - called sportswomen who were sent to international competition in total disregard 6f our society's traditional and ideological values.

WSO was established in 1981 after the Islamic Revolution with goals for women's sports different from those of the previous regime. Since 1986, it has been vastly developed with the struggles of our Muslim The Objectives of WSO:

  1. Promotion and preservation of physical health
  2. Promotion and preservation of mental health
  3. Protection and development of social relations
  4. Protection and development of intellectual and mental conditions
  5. Protection and development of moral, ideological and spiritual conditions
  6. Planning for women's leisure time.
  7. Prevention and cure of certain troubles existing during different 6tages of women's life (such as childhood, puberty, adolescence, pregnancy, delivery and menopause.

Aerobic Exercises

Common sports. (Objectives)

  • To expand aerobic exercises which are simple, inexpensive and easy to practice at home and indoor gymnasiums.
  • To provide posters and pamphlets in simple language containing daily exercises for women. To prepare different nation - wide educational programs through radio and practical programs.
  • To establish fitness classes for women in sports clubs of the country
  • To conduct scientific seminars and arrange sports competitions and cultural festivals throughout the

B. Sports Training. (Objectives)

  • To train women in different areas of sports, including the following:
    1. Physical education 2. Self - defence 3. Fishing 4.Badminton 5. Basketball 6. Tennis 7. Table - tennis 8.Track & field 9. Gymnastics 10. Chess 11. Swimming 12. Life Guard 13. Volleyball 14. Hand ball 15. Shooting 16. Sports for the disabled 17. Fencing 18. Horse back Riding 19. Mountain climbing.

    C. To procure and train specialized man power, e.g., instructors and referees in different areas of sports.

    E. To hold national and international competitions.

    F. To conduct research on women's sports.

    G. To expand international relations

    In the sphere of sports in order to propagate the Islamic culture and values. Women's sports association for Muslim countries was established by Islamic Republic of Iran.

    In this connection, the first women's sports competition of Muslim countries was held in Tehran, Iran, in February 1993 in 8 different fields. 11 Muslim countries took part in these competitions which was held under the title of: Islamic Countries, Women Solidarity Tournament.
