Excerpts From the Report by MRS. MARY ALISON GLEN HEIG IOC PRESIDENT'S DELEGATE ON THE FIRST EDITION OF THE ISLAMIC
COUNTRIES WOMEN SPORTS SOLIDARITY GAMES The Opening Ceremony which included men and women, was a spectacular event which was televised and shown on a number of occasions. From what one observed, the events were well run: Computers were used to collate results; and the judging, time--keeping and refereeing gave the impression of being of a high standard. This impression was confirmed by Mrs. Mary Baneham of Ireland, the representative of the International Basketball Association. With delicate handling, and sensitivity, this could lead to recommending that women be considered eligible to take their place alongside men in such areas as organization, administration and coaching, from base level to top level management, in all phases ( people, finance, and facilities). These First Games have shown the way and the need and desire of the
women of Iran to seek further international experience. If a second Games are to be held
in four years time, the International Olympic Committee could assist with the initial
administration, and with a drug-testing program. |
