The night of Mab'ath
The 27th night of Rajab is the last of the holy nights of this blessed month. The
Holy Prophet (s) received his first revelation, when he was 40 years old, on the 27th of
Rajab. Thus this night is known as the night of Mab'ath, or the night when he was given
the responsibility of Apostleship. Mi'raj (Prophet's ascension to the heavens) also took
place on the 27th of Rajab when the Holy Prophet (s) was 50 years old.
Certain A'maal are recommended on this night.
1. Ghusl
2. Just before midnight, recite 12 raka'at divided in 6 units of 2 raka'at each. In
each rak'ah, after sura al-Hamd recite any short surah from Surah Muhammad to the last
surah of the Qur'an. After completing the prayer recite each of the following 7 times:
Surahs al-Hamd, al-Falaq, an-Naas, al-Ikhlas, alKafirun, al-Qadr, and Ayatul Kursi.
Then recite the follwoing du'a:
Al hamdu lillazi lam yat'taqiz wa'ladan wa lam yakun laho shariko
Fil mulke wa lam yakun laho wa le'yo minaz'zol'la wa
kab'bir ho takbi'ra.
Allah humma inni as'aluka bima'gha qhi'dhi ezza'ka a'laa az kaa'ni az
shi'ka wa montihar'rahmatie min kitaa'bika.
Wa bi'is-mikal ah'zamil ah'zamil ah'zam.
wa dhik-rikal ah'lal ah'lal ah'laa; wa bikalimaa' ti'kat-tam'ma ti an
to'salli s'laa mo'hammadin wa aa'lihi wa an taf'al bi maa' anta a'luho.
