Mab'ath, Eid of wisdom, freedom and
perfectionism
The night before Rajab 27 recalls for the Muslims the moment that was
promised to all the prophets of past nations, particularly Jesus Christ
(PBUH). On that night, one of the most crucial events in world history
took place. On that night the cave of Hira, on Jabal an-Nour (the
mountain of light), was suddenly filled with a brilliant light. The most
trustworthy son of the tribe of Quraish, then 40 years old, was deep in
meditation, thinking about the mysteries of the great universe. Gabriel,
the angel of divine revelations, descended to earth with a plate in his
hand and attended Muhammad (S).
"Read!"
said the angel,
addressing him as Allah's Messenger.
"But I know not how to read!"
replied Muhammad
Then Gabriel embraced him tightly and after leaving him repeated,
"Read in the name of your God Who
Created."
Thus, the angel of celestial revelations gave the divine message he was carrying, as a
whole, while
simultaneously, revealing it gradually as of that night for twenty-three
years, to the new Prophet. From then on, Muhammad (S) was trusted with
the profound duty of guiding mankind to tread in the right path. From
then on he was the Slave of Allah, His Prophet (S) and his Messenger
(S). He was ready to face hardships, tolerate tortures and even be
accused of madness, all of which he and his faithful followers
experienced in a short while after this great event. "Do not yield to
any power, except that of Allah!" was one of his most revolutionary,
best teachings. He thus laid the cornerstone of the greatest
civilization in history, one of whose major prophecies was promotion of
human beings' gratitude and nobilty.
